Verde Canyon Railroad - Controller

Our client, Verde Canyon Railroad is seeking a hands-on, high-caliber Controller to lead the company’s accounting function in a dynamic, guest-focused recreational business.  The Controller will work in tandem with Verde Canyon Railroad’s freight partner, Clarkdale Arizona Railroad.  This in-office position in Clarkdale, AZ is a unique opportunity to join a fast-moving organization, where no two days are the same, and where the work they do helps create unforgettable experiences for visitors from around the world.

The Controller position is ideal for a detail-driven professional who thrives on both strategic oversight and day-to-day execution. You’ll be responsible for all core accounting functions, including A/P, payroll, month-end and year-end close, budgeting, and financial reporting, while also serving as the primary liaison with banks, credit card processors, benefit providers, and CPA firms.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred), with at least five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles. You should have a solid understanding of GAAP, a strong knowledge of internal controls, and proficiency with accounting software and business operations systems.  A strong tech-savvy, process-improvement mindset and the ability to quickly learn new technology is key.  Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills are essential, along with experience working directly with external financial partners.
